Program Description

Event Details

Ms. Ferrante has carefully curated and photographed only the best sites.  Some of these sites are hidden gems.  All are masterpieces of architecture and horticulture which will help to inform us of the history and lifestyles of these early New York families.  We will learn how and why they planned and built their handsome homes and grounds.  Your senses will be heightened as we "visit" the elegant period homes and stunning gardens from "Old New York" to the luxurious "Gilded Age" estates.  You will learn what an "old fashioned garden" was and how aspects of it have come down to us today.  We'll visit sites from East Hampton, Long Island to historic mansions in Upper Manhattan (including Alexander Hamilton's estate "The Grange") and stunning estates on the Hudson.  Together we will explore these impressive sites and their history -- all within easy driving distance from Bergen County.  This program is both in person in the library and live streaming via Zoom.  Registration is necessary on mahwahlibrary.org events calendar to receive the Zoom Link (Don't forget to give us your email address).
